Matt Weill moved to GEABP from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in 2010, arriving as an associate with a little over three years of experience. In 2016 he was promoted to Partner. Matt’s practice is focused on private company M&A, venture capital and other business and transactional matters for a wide range of clients.
He is also active in our Food, Beverage & Hospitality practice. Like many of the attorneys at GEABP, Matt left Big Law looking for “something different”. While he appreciated his experience and the training he received at a larger firm, Matt was looking for a place that would offer interesting and challenging work in an environment that was also conducive to his interests and commitments outside the office.
He enjoyed working with a variety of clients, serving as an advisor and strategist, and wanted to stay in private practice as opposed to seeking an in-house role. He was also targeting a platform in which he could build and grow his own practice over time, and which offered a more realistic path to partnership. GEABP proved to be the one firm that “checked all the boxes”. Matt explains: “When I left Big Law, I’d only had one type of experience as a ‘corporate lawyer’ and didn’t really know what to expect in a smaller firm setting.
What I’ve found is that the work is just as challenging and dynamic, there’s no drop off in the talent around the hallways, and you really can have more control over your day-to-day life and professional experience. I’ve had great teachers and mentors and access to interesting clients and deals throughout my tenure at GEABP. No two days are the same and the commitment to teamwork is particularly reassuring.”
